Last week, Rep. Weaver and several of his colleagues were able to visit and tour the Quad Cities Nuclear Generating Station in Cordova, IL. The power plant, located near the Quad Cities on the Mississippi River, has the ability to produce 1,880 MW of clean, zero-emission electricity, and is owned by Constellation Energy.
Thanks to recent legislation passed to lift the ban on new nuclear facilities, we have a massive opportunity to expand our nuclear footprint and bridge the gap between our energy supply and energy demand.
In addition to the tour, we also met with MidAmerican Energy officials, and Station staff, allowing them to learn about how the plant operates, the ways in which the Station drives economic growth in the region, and how Illinois can better promote clean, nuclear energy to power homes and businesses.
