Rep. Weaver’s E-Newsletter: Winter Clothing Drive, Citizen Spotlight, and More

WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE

Have you heard of Dragon’s Closet? It’s a wonderful service at Pekin Community High School that ensures students in need have the warm clothes needed to perform their best this winter. My Pekin Office will be collecting items from December 9-11 during regular business hours.

Please consider donating gently-used winter clothing items and dropping them off if you can. Thank you in advance for your support!

CITIZEN SPOTLIGHT

I would like to continue to recognize outstanding citizens and community leaders all across Central and Western Illinois as part of a Citizen Spotlight. If you know of someone who deserves recognition for their special contributions to your community, we would like to honor them.

Our first honoree was Carlin Follis. Learn more about her story here:

PRAIRIE STATE PROMISE AWARD

I am truly honored to have received the 2025 Prairie State Promise Award from Americans Prosperity for Illinois. I will always continue to fight for lower taxes, property tax relief, and educational freedom, among other very important initiatives. We must continue to advocate to bring freedom and opportunity to all Illinoisans.

VETO SESSION RECAP

The recent fall veto session included several controversial pieces of legislation passed by Democrats. Two of the major bills focused on Chicago Transit and Energy. The transit bill enacted a $2.5 billion fix for a $200 million problem without addressing necessary operational and structural reforms.

The $8 billion energy bill did include lifting the 50-year moratorium on nuclear energy, which I support, but the bill focuses on funding battery storage. If we don’t get serious about increasing energy production in Illinois, which includes lifting artificial caps on natural gas and keeping clean coal plants open, we will continue to see energy prices skyrocket and negatively affect consumers and businesses.

Last month, I joined Cameron Maine and WMBD News for a segment to recap these bills and the veto session, and you can watch the video at this link: Rep. Weaver Talks Transit and Energy Bills With WMBD News

SIGN MY PETITION

The House Republican Caucus is urging Governor Pritzker to veto Senate Bill 1950, which would legalize physician-assisted suicide in our state. While we recognize the importance of compassionate end-of-life care, we believe SB1950 poses serious ethical, medical, and societal risks.

MASS TRANSIT

The Greater Peoria Mass Transit District (GPMTD) has announced that its paratransit services, CityLift and CountyLink, are now operated by WeDriveU. To ensure smooth transition of services with minimal interruption, WeDriveU will continue utilizing the current Citylift routing/dispatch software.
