Rep. Weaver’s E-Newsletter: Community Clean-Up Project, State Colors Project, Second Amendment, and More

COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP PROJECT

My annual Community Clean-Up Project began this week and continues through May 22. This project is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness by encouraging individuals to collect and properly dispose of litter. Participants are invited to document their efforts by submitting photos of themselves with trash they picked up.

Students must have parent or guardian permission to pick up trash in a location of their choosing. All students who fill a standard kitchen-size trash bag with litter should submit a photo to: communitycleanup2026@reptravisweaver.org.

Everyone is invited to participate, and students who complete this project and submit a photo will receive a Certificate of Service from Rep. Weaver. Thank you to everyone in advance for participating and supporting this project!

STATE COLORS PROJECT

Students from Pekin Community High School and East Aurora High School have been working on a project to establish official state colors for Illinois – something our state currently does not have under the State Designations Act. As part of this effort, all students statewide are invited to cast their vote for Illinois’ state colors!

By completing a brief survey, students can take part in shaping the future of our great state. The deadline to complete the survey is April 23rd at 11:59 p.m. Students can complete the survey via a link at my website – » Illinois State Colors Project

SECOND AMENDMENT

Democrats continue to try to infringe on Second Amendment rights in Illinois, with several bad bills being introduced this spring. The RIFL Act (HB 3320) is yet another overreaching piece of legislation that will drive up costs for law-abiding gun owners. Say NO to the RIFL Act! Learn more here

EDUCATION TAX CREDIT, BEARS LEGISLATION

We have a tremendous opportunity in Illinois to opt in to a Federal Scholarship Tax Credit Program to benefit students across the state, both public and private. The dollars are there, and the impacts could be extraordinary. I discussed this issue, along with potential Chicago Bears-related legislation, recently on WMBD News. You can watch the segment here: Rep. Weaver Talks School Scholarship Program and Other Legislative Topics

HIGH TAXES

Governor Pritzker can try to pass the buck all he wants, but the fact of the matter is that property taxes are way up under his administration. House Republicans have solutions ready to go, and it’s time for the Governor to own his failures and help us provide real relief for Illinois families.

Tax hikes have been a staple of the Pritzker administration, with 49 tax and fee hikes enacted during his tenure. Last year, he signed a budget with $700 million in new taxes. The cycle of higher costs and more tax hikes shows no end in sight, despite empty rhetoric of affordability priorities from Illinois Democrats and the Governor.
