Citizen Spotlight: Abigail and Kenneth Wolf

For my next Citizen Spotlight, I would like to recognize two remarkable siblings from Geneseo. Abigail Wolf, 15, and her younger brother, Kenneth, 10, competed on the Food Network national baking competition show, ‘Baking Championship, Next Gen, Season 1,’ and won $25,000! Abigail and Kenneth beat out 11 other teams for the first-place prize.

The Wolf siblings spent a month in California last summer filming the show. They were joined by their mother, Erica; while their father, Dan, and younger sister Lucy stayed home on the Wolf family farm. Nine episodes of the program were filmed over a 25-day period. Each episode focused on a themed baking challenge.

After being declared the winners, Abigail, Kenneth, and their family had to keep the outcome a secret until the series was shown on the Food Network. The season finale aired earlier this month on March 2.

Baking has been a passion for Abigail since she was a little girl, learning many skills from her mom and grandma. I would like to congratulate the Wolf family on this incredible accomplishment, and what a story of how the young people in our communities continue to show wisdom, strength, and skills beyond their years. This story is truly inspirational, with two farm kids from downstate Illinois winning a national baking competition while being filmed and judged by experts in the industry.
