Rep. Weaver Reacts to Governor’s Budget Address

State Representative Travis Weaver (R-Edwards) has issued a statement following today’s Budget and State of the State Address delivered by Governor Pritzker:

“Once again, the Governor has proposed the largest budget in state history, this time a nearly $2 billion increase over last year. The Governor’s revenue estimates included $2 billion more in revenue than the previous forecast. Where did that money suddenly come from? The Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (CGFA) will come out with its next revenue report in March, and those numbers will give us the true financial picture. At that point, we may be facing billions of dollars in deficits and serious and impactful cuts to essential services will have to be considered. That kind of irresponsible governing is unacceptable. Democrats’ uncontrollable spending must stop, and House Republicans will continue to be focused on economic growth through good policies, reducing costs, and holding the line on any tax increases.”
