Rep. Weaver Senate Bill 2862 Passes House Unanimously

Springfield, IL – Senate Bill 2862, sponsored by State Representative Travis Weaver (R-Edwards), was passed unanimously by the House today. Senate Bill 2862 requires that an annual list of the most in-demand education jobs be made available on the Board of Higher Education’s website.

“Students are trying to find careers that are in high demand now and in the future,” Rep. Weaver stated. “This legislation will help students find those jobs, and I think this will be particularly beneficial for those entering the trades. Thank you to my colleagues for unanimously passing this bill.”

The annual list of in-demand education jobs will be compiled through a collaboration of the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Department of Employment Security. The starting salary, median salary, and typical education level for each job will be included.

The bill now heads to the Governor’s desk. When signed, the legislation becomes effective July 1, 2024.
