Rep. Weaver Teams Up with Pekin, Kewanee Police Departments for Prescription Drug Take Back Events

State Representative Travis Weaver (R-Edwards) is partnering with the Pekin and Kewanee Police Departments to host Prescription Drug Take Back Events this upcoming Saturday, October 28th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will take place at the Pekin PD (111 S. Capitol St., Pekin), and the Kewanee PD (401 E. Third St., Kewanee).

These events will coincide with DEA National Drug Take Back Day. Local residents are encouraged to safely dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs. Please place medications in sealed plastic bags.

Accepted medications include tablets, capsules, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Also accepted are patches, vaping devices, and cartridges (with lithium batteries removed).

Restricted items include liquids (including intravenous solutions), syringes and needles.

“It is no secret that we have a drug pandemic across the state and country,” Rep. Weaver stated. “For many folks, drug abuse includes stealing old prescription drugs from friends or family who no longer need them. I’m excited to join the Pekin and Kewanee Police Departments in their effort to get old prescription drugs out of medicine cabinets to ensure they don’t unintentionally fall into the wrong hands. I applaud the great work being done by the Pekin and Kewanee PD’s and am honored to stand with them in this event.”
